Disfigured by Austerity

The last official figures for fraud committed against Local Authorities was published by the Home Office a decade ago. Back then it was estimated at £2.1bn, but most Local Authorities would agree that compared to 2023, this is probably just the of the tip of the iceberg.

Fraud being carried out against Local Authorities is now at an all-time high, and this has been exacerbated by COVID grant fraud and criminals consistently finding new and innovative ways to steal much-needed funds.

With dwindling resources and no clear idea of the true extent of the fraud threat they face, how can Local Authorities continue to protect public money from fraud?

Join Rachael Tiffen - Director of Public Sector for Cifas, and Julie Hewitt - Head of Government for Synalogik as they discuss how a new approach to tackling fraud can help Local Authorities more effectively identify and manage fraud threats.

They will be joined by fraud specialists from across the public sector who will share their experiences and insight of fighting fraud in times of austerity.
