Cifas Identity Check (for organisations only)

Powered by the National Fraud Database (NFD), Cifas Identity Check is designed for Identity Providers (IDPs) operating in recognised Digital Identity Schemes under the DSIT Trust and Attribute Framework. It allows IDPs to screen individuals and verify their identities against cases of previous identity abuse such as identity fraud (including use of synthetic identities) and account takeovers, or where an identity is known to be at risk of misuse.

How does it work?

As an IDP you can use Cifas Identity Check as a tool in your process to verify an identity. Using either an API connection to our system or by accessing directly into our FIND system you can screen the details of an individual against relevant identity-related data within our NFD to support the validation of an identity. If you identify fraudulent conduct you will record cases of identity fraud or misuse  back to the NFD in order to protect innocent victims, other IDPs and the wider economy from further abuse.

Using Cifas Identity Check means you gain a bespoke membership of the NFD available to IDP’s for the purpose of identity verification, meaning you are part of the UK’s fraud prevention community, working together to reduce the risk of identity fraud.

Who can use the service?

In order to be eligible to use Cifas Identity Check, an IDP must be the data controller and own the relationship with the consumer. They must also be prepared to investigate cases of identity fraud they identify and record those to the NFD in order to remain in membership. The service is designed for IDP’s operating in recognised Digital Identity Schemes under the DSIT Trust and Attribute Framework.

How do I access it?

The service can be accessed via the Cifas API or direct into our FIND system.

What does it cost?

Cifas Identity Check operates on a cost by search basis and we offer two options to choose from:

• Standard cost per search charged on a quarterly basis in arrears (only available to new customers for their first year using Identity Check);
• Or prepay upfront for a block of searches at a discounted rate.
