CIFAS - What are CIFAS Members required to do?

CIFAS membership is open to public sector organisations that are able to identify fraud and are prepared to share fraud data with other Members through the CIFAS National Fraud database. CIFAS Members can access CIFAS data through a third party or direct from the database. Members are required, among other things, to:

include printed or scripted privacy notices in relevant documentation to advise claimants about how their data may be shared with CIFAS Members

identify, classify and record frauds on the National Fraud Database

include in their Data Protection Register entry the 'crime prevention and prosecution of offenders' purpose

'own' the personal data received from individuals or organisations

to receive training in order to get the best from the National Fraud Database

be visited annually to confirm compliance

provide an indemnity to all other Members

not to undertake any processing which would involve access to CIFAS data from outside the EEA and certain other countries.
