I've been impersonated. Howcan CIFAS help me?
If you are impersonated you should contact the organisation, so they are made aware that the application/proposal/claim or account/service did not originate from you. This will ensure any CIFAS warning placed against your name is clearly marked to show that you have been the victim of an impersonation fraud. You should also be prepared to contact the police if you have not already done so.
Where the organisation concerned is not a CIFAS Member, CIFAS offer a service to protect your name and address from being misused in this way. This is known as 'Protective Registration'. If you take out Protective Registration, your details will be recorded as a CIFAS warning on the CIFAS National Fraud Database marked 'Victim of Impersonation' which indicates that you have been recorded on the database at your own request for your protection. Protective Registration is not needed if a 'Victim of Impersonation' warning has already been recorded for you by a CIFAS Member.
See the Protective Registration page for more information about how to apply.
