See '419 Fraud'
- Whistle-blowing
The act of an employee revealing suspected fraud to a third party. Many organisations will set up a confidential help-line enabling employees to discuss fraud in absolute confidence and secrecy.
- White Collar Crime
Generic description of a crime committed by a business or professional person usually connected to fraud or financial crime.
- Wiretapping
Used to access the electronic data that passes through point of sale terminal phone lines. A recording device captures the data and a decoder converts the electrical impulses into useable data.
- Worm
A worm is similar to a virus but is self-contained and so does not require a host to spread. A worm may destroy, modify or copy data to a third party. It may also install a backdoor in the system, for later use in spam emails, key logging or denial of service attacks.
